Theta EdgeCloud Hybrid Beta Launches, Ushering In Decentralized AI
HomeNews* THETA Network will launch its Theta EdgeCloud Hybrid Beta on June 25, 2025.
Among its current users, Theta EdgeCloud serves academic institutions such as Stanford University, Seoul National University, KAIST, Yonsei University, University of Oregon, Michigan State University, and NTU Singapore for research in AI. Enterprise clients include sports organizations like the NHL’s Las Vegas Knights, NBA’s Houston Rockets, and esports teams FlyQuest and Evil Geniuses.
The EdgeCloud Client is the lightweight software that allows individuals to contribute GPU power. Recommended participation requires an NVIDIA 3090, 4090, A100, H100 or similar with at least 8GB video RAM, a minimum of 16GB system RAM, an Intel or AMD CPU with four or more cores, at least 256GB free storage, a network speed of at least 100 Mbps, and running on Ubuntu 22.04+ (recommended) or Windows 10/11 (Alpha support). Systems meeting these specifications are more likely to be chosen for high-reward jobs. Consistent internet connectivity, power supply, and adequate cooling are advised due to the heavy use of the GPU during these tasks.
Prospective users can begin by installing the EdgeCloud client following the official documentation provided by Theta Labs. The platform targets users familiar with traditional cloud service providers and positions itself as a scalable, cost-effective alternative for both individual contributors and organizations seeking advanced GPU infrastructure.
