Former Ripple Employee Explains Why $XRP Is the Future of International Payments
A recent video featuring Miguel Vias, former XRP Market Director at Ripple, focused again on the platform role of XRP in transforming international payment transactions. In a discussion shared by renowned cryptocurrency researcher SMQKE (@SMQKEDQG) on X, Vias explained how XRP Ledger (XRPL) is purpose-built to handle high-volume financial transactions with unparalleled efficiency. Vias emphasized that the XRPL "is a ledger primarily focused on payments," specifically designed to support the needs of global financial infrastructure. He pointed out the payment channel feature on the ledger, which can handle up to 50,000 transactions per second. He further stated that, unlike other experimental solutions in the cryptocurrency space, this capability is now operational and effective. The Technology Behind the Vision According to Vias, the technical design of the XRP Ledger directly reflects the mission to modernize and enhance Ripple's cross-border payments. He explains that scalability has always been a core goal. It allows the ledger to handle large transaction volumes without compromising speed or security. This network is also very efficient, as Ripple President Monica Long recently noted that XRPL saves energy over 120,000 times compared to the Bitcoin network. Vias shared that this robust architecture is the main reason he decided to join Ripple. He describes the combination of XRP, Interledger, and Ripple's solutions as a completely reasonable technological combination. In his view, these components together form the platform for a modern international payment system capable of replacing outdated processes. When considering previous projects of Ripple, Vias points out Ripple Trade and Ripple Payments Platform as examples of how the capabilities of this digital asset have been applied since 2014. Ripple Trade operates as a ledger exchange, while RPP facilitates the conversion of fiat currency to XRP for cross-border payments. Although both products have ultimately been eliminated, Vias notes that the core use cases they supported have become essential parts of today's digital asset ecosystem. He emphasizes that XRP and its ledger remain deeply integrated with Ripple's broader strategy. Vias stated, "It is as clear as day that all these worlds are merging," indicating that XRP remains the optimal asset to facilitate seamless, high-speed global transactions. Vias also addresses a common question that arises in the XRP community about whether XRPL is a focus in Ripple's plans. He stated that the ledger is not only a part of Ripple's story but also continues to be a critical element in the company's development strategy.
