Europol has launched a raid to shut down the dark web market Archetyp, with a total trading volume of $287 million.
Gate News bot News: Europol said on Monday that it had shut down the main infrastructure of Archetyp Market, one of the longest-running darknet marketplaces, in the Netherlands through a series of raids involving six countries. The raid targeted key personal and technological infrastructure in Archetyp, where the administrator of the site, a German citizen, was allegedly arrested in Spain. Europol said it also arrested a moderator and six of the site's biggest providers in Germany and Sweden. Such darknet marketplaces rely on cryptocurrencies for transactions, while Archetyp uses the privacy-focused token Monero (XMR) for transactions. The marketplace has been in operation for five years, and Europol said it took "years of in-depth investigative work," including tracking the flow of funds, to finally shut down the site and its alleged operators. According to reports, Archetyp has a user base of more than 600,000, a total transaction value of at least 250 million euros ($287 million), and more than 17,000 listings, most of which are used to sell illegal drugs, including cocaine, MDMA, and amphetamines.
