Diplomats stated that this round of sanctions will lower the Group of Seven (G7) price cap on Russian oil from $60 per barrel to $47.6 per barrel. The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Borrell, announced on social media platform X: "The EU has just approved the most severe sanctions against Russia to date, and we will continue to raise the cost of war until stopping the action becomes the only option for Russia."
