This meeting took place after the latest round of ceasefire negotiations in Gaza broke down. Six months into Trump's presidency, there has still been no progress in the Gaza situation. An increasing number of people are beginning to question Trump's strategy of maximizing support for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's war efforts. In his speech on Friday, Trump suggested that Israel should further escalate the war to "completely eliminate" Hamas. He said, "The problem with Hamas is very serious; let's see how Israel responds. But now is the time." Trump's remarks left Israeli officials uncertain whether he was using this rhetoric as a negotiating tactic or truly changing policy to allow Netanyahu to take more aggressive military actions.
