This move sparked fierce criticism and angered consumers as rice prices continue to soar in Japan. Takashi Eto stated that Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has accepted his resignation, which may be seen as a setback for the current government. As Japan prepares for upper house elections in July, the Ishiba administration is facing its lowest approval ratings since taking office.
