Larsen of Ripple: XRP was created as a better version of Bitcoin
In a recent appearance on the podcast "When Shift Happens", Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen recalled that he wanted to create "a better version of Bitcoin" with a group of "really, really smart people". "There is a group of people who are really, really smart, much smarter than me, that I have gathered, and… basically, they are trying to create a better kind of Bitcoin if you want — that is, a kind of non-government online currency, but not, you know, consuming a lot of electricity and faster," he said. The co-founder of Ripple added that the Bitcoin revolution is truly "amazing". Larsen believes that the remarkable conservatism of Bitcoin has benefited it. "You might think that everything there needs improvement, but the fundamental aspect is conservatism, and I think that is really important," he emphasized. At the same time, he criticized projects that are volatile, unstable, and unpredictable, seemingly publicly criticizing its competitor Stellar, the well-known company that burned more than half of the total XLM supply in 2019. "Let's burn half of this, and change this, and go in this direction, we will do an airdrop there, we will do it, you know, it's chaotic. It's like the opposite of what any currency in the world is trying to achieve success," he said. Larsen praised the XRP community, describing it as "amazing" and "incredible." At the same time, he seemed to question the sustainability of the Ethereum community. "They have accompanied the project through every ups and downs just like Bitcoin people... Will the Ethereum community be like that? Let's wait and see," he added. The Risks of Disclosure During the podcast broadcast, Larsen also stated that the listing process has become "very bureaucratic" in the United States. "And then you will have to face short sellers who are always trying to kill you," he added. Larsen warns that these short sellers may fan false information to drive the stock price down.
