S&P 500 Index To Be Offered As Tokenized Fund Via Centrifuge
HomeNews* S&P Dow Jones Indices has licensed its S&P 500 Index to Centrifuge to create a tokenized S&P 500 fund.
Recent research indicates that younger investors often prefer alternative and crypto assets over traditional stocks. For these investors, having all assets in one digital wallet increases the appeal of tokenized stocks or funds compared to regular offerings. S&P Dow Jones Indices also intends to make its indices available for use in decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols in the future.
Centrifuge is known for working with Janus Henderson on the Anemoy Treasury Fund, a tokenized money market fund, which now manages $447 million. Most of this growth comes from Centrifuge’s longstanding relationship with stablecoin issuer MakerDAO.com/”>Sky (formerly MakerDAO). For example, the Spark investment pool has invested at least $376 million in the fund.
Founded by the team behind supply chain finance company Taulia, acquired by SAP, Centrifuge started in 2017 by tokenizing trade finance assets. Their early collaborations included investments from MakerDAO in trade finance pools. Due to loan defaults in the beginning, Centrifuge shifted to tokenizing safer assets, such as government treasuries, and now, the S&P 500 Index.
This recent project reflects growing interest in offering blockchain-based investment tools to a new generation of investors seeking streamlined and transparent asset management.
