According to the official statement by Ripple, Mercado Bitcoin, a pioneering cryptocurrency services platform in Latin America, announces its plans to tokenize $200 million of real-world assets, including fixed income and equity income tools.

Ripple-linked programmable blockchain XRP Ledger (XRPL) has been chosen as the technical basis for the initiative. With this move, Mercado Bitcoin becomes one of the world's five largest tokenization operators.

The initiative is one of the largest tokenization efforts by a Latin American institution on the XRPL and a strategic move in MB’s international expansion to increase global liquidity and access to regulated digital products across South America and Europe.

XRPL to fuel integration with speed, cost-effectiveness

XRP Ledger is well known for its fast and low-cost transactions and growing influence in the stablecoin segment. Since the launch of Ripple USD (RLUSD) dollar-pegged stablecoin, XRPL is one of the most important blockchains in the stablecoin vertical.

Mercado Bitcoin has also worked with Ripple by using Ripple Payments to facilitate cross-border treasury flows between Brazil and Portugal, and on the listing of RLUSD, an enterprise-grade, USD-denominated stablecoin on its exchange.

Mercado Bitcoin was the first client of the solution in the country, gaining access to a faster, more secure and cost-efficient international payments system.
