CryptoCity Is Coming: Kazakhstan to Fuse Blockchain With Daily Life
Kazakhstan ignites a digital revolution with CryptoCity, a daring experiment to fuse cryptocurrency into daily life and economic infrastructure.
Kazakhstan Launches CryptoCity to Pioneer National Crypto Integration
Kazakhstan is preparing to test the integration of cryptocurrency into everyday economic life through a bold new initiative unveiled by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev: a pilot zone named CryptoCity. Speaking on May 29, 2025, at the plenary session of the Astana International Forum (AIF), Tokayev outlined the plan to thousands of international delegates, including heads of state, diplomats, and representatives from leading global institutions. He stated:
The proposal reflects Kazakhstan’s drive to position itself as a leader in digital innovation and blockchain experimentation in Eurasia.
The CryptoCity project is part of a broader national agenda to diversify Kazakhstan’s economy through high-tech development and institutional reform. Tokayev used his speech at the AIF to highlight the country’s momentum in digital transformation and advanced technologies. “That is why we continue to deepen our capabilities in key sectors – from digital technologies and AI to clean energy and value-added manufacturing,” he told attendees. “We are making significant progress in digital transformation, reflecting our desire to become IT hub in Eurasia.”
His remarks emphasized that digital expansion is not only a domestic priority but also a central pillar of Kazakhstan’s foreign investment and innovation strategy. This includes the launch of a powerful new supercomputer and partnerships with foreign universities to support research and development.
As many nations adopt stricter regulations on digital assets, Kazakhstan is carving out a different path—one that explores how cryptocurrencies can function within a structured, state-supported environment. CryptoCity could serve as a model for testing practical crypto applications under regulatory supervision. Proponents argue that initiatives like this enhance financial access, stimulate innovation, and offer a viable framework for integrating decentralized finance with national economies. By placing CryptoCity at the heart of its digital roadmap, Kazakhstan aims to set a precedent for how governments can explore crypto technologies without abandoning oversight or stability.
