AMD's latest MI355 performance skyrockets by 35 times! Su Zifeng: AI market will exceed 500 billion USD within three years.

AMD CEO Lisa Su announced at a conference in California on June 12 that AMD's latest generation of AI accelerators, the MI350 series, has been launched. The performance not only surpasses previous generations but can also compete with Nvidia's popular products, the B200 and GB200, in certain AI applications. She further upgraded the market forecast, stating that the AI chip market size will exceed $500 billion within three years.

MI355 chip performance skyrockets by 35 times, AMD strives to catch up with NVIDIA

Su Zifeng announced that the next-generation AI accelerator chip MI355 has started shipping this month, with performance surging 35 times compared to previous generations of chips. It operates faster than NVIDIA's B200 and GB200 in AI software applications and can match them during model training, with even the potential to surpass them.

More importantly, the price of MI355 is significantly cheaper than its competitors, which can help companies build AI infrastructure at a lower cost. Su Zifeng stated:

"This is the starting point for AMD to catch up with NVIDIA!"

The AI chip market is competing to break 500 billion, AMD has big ambitions but its stock price has fallen.

Su Zifeng revised the AI chip market forecast, believing that the market size is expected to surpass 500 billion USD in the next three years, achieving this much faster than her previously set target for 2028. She stated:

"In the past, everyone thought this number was very large, but now it seems like just a basic level."

However, the market reaction was relatively conservative, with AMD's stock price dropping 2.2% after the announcement, closing at $118.50.

The MI400 chip in collaboration with OpenAI will debut next year, but U.S. export restrictions still need to be overcome.

Su Zifeng also announced that the next generation MI400 chip series will be launched in 2026, revealing that this MI400 was developed in collaboration with OpenAI. Even CEO Sam Altman took the stage to endorse it, exclaiming that he "could hardly believe" when he first saw the specifications.

However, AMD is still restricted by U.S. export policies and requires permission to ship to China. Currently, Su Zifeng is actively lobbying the Trump administration to relax these restrictions and has successfully secured an order from Saudi Arabia approved by the White House. She emphasizes that the U.S. should allow the free export of chips to maintain its leadership in global AI technology.
