On February 8th, according to CNN, Russell Vought, Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), was reportedly appointed Acting Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) on Friday evening, while officials from Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) deleted the X platform account of the regulatory agency.

The appointment of Vought's new position was reported by The Wall Street Journal, which happened a day after he was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). According to sources, DOGE officials have been granted administrative access to the CFPB system, including the content management system, the backend system of the agency's website, and the personnel activity directory.

On Friday afternoon, Musk tweeted, 'CFPB RIP,' with a tombstone emoji. Sources said that the DOGE team took over and deleted CFPB's X platform account on Friday night. The CFPB homepage appears to have been deleted, showing a 404 error, while other pages are still accessible.

"Everyone is feeling frustrated and angry," said the source when talking about the mood inside the CFPB. The White House and CFPB did not respond to CNN's request for comment.
