The U.S. Department of Justice has determined that the closure of the Kansas bank is related to a $225 million eyewash seizure case.

The prosecutor has filed a civil forfeiture lawsuit against USDT for money laundering amounts exceeding $225 million, which is part of a scam related to a call center in the Philippines, involving the infamous former CEO Shan Hanes, who embezzled $47 million from Heartland Tri-State Bank, a theft that directly led to the collapse of this agricultural lending institution in 2023.

According to the complaint by the Ministry of Justice, the Crypto Assets exchange provided key information that helped identify the complex account network used by the exchange for laundering crypto assets profits.

The scammers first instruct the victim to launder money by sending USDT to 93 deposit addresses controlled by the scammers. According to the indictment, the funds were then transferred through up to 100 intermediate wallets, a process designed to mask the source of the funds and obfuscate the deposits of multiple victims.

The laundered funds were subsequently transferred to 22 Crypto Assets exchange accounts and further moved to another 122 accounts, all of which were linked through shared IP addresses, reused KYC documents, and coordinated actions. These actions are allegedly traceable to a fraud group located in Manila, referred to in the complaint as ITECHNO Specialist Inc. The U.S. Department of Justice stated that the money laundering network generated approximately $3 billion in transaction volume.
