OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's Controversial Altcoin Project Expands to the US! - Coin Bulletin
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's controversial crypto project World aims to reach 180 million people by launching 7,500 eye scanning devices across the United States.
One of the latest innovations in the US crypto ecosystem, World, announced that it will launch its global devices that scan people's eyes for identity verification by the end of the year in six major innovation hubs such as Atlanta, Austin, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, and San Francisco.
These devices made of steel, resembling a bowling ball, are called "orb". Users will scan their eyes with these devices to log into the World application and, in return, they will receive the project's own cryptocurrency, Worldcoin (WLD) tokens, for free. By the end of the year, it is planned that 180 million US citizens will be able to benefit from this technology.
One of the most notable aspects of the project is the launch of a new Visa debit card that will allow users to convert their WLD tokens into real money. In addition, users will be able to access crypto-backed loans through the decentralized lending protocol Morpho and participate in prediction markets on the Kalshi platform. In addition, in collaboration with Match Group, World ID technology will be used for age verification of Tinder** users in Japan.
Altman stated that the purpose of the project is to "keep people original and significant in the age of artificial intelligence", emphasizing that content created by artificial intelligence should be distinguished from human-made content. The eye-scanning technology developed within this scope is expected to provide a real solution, even though it initially seems "very crazy".
The inauguration of Donald Trump in January led to a friendlier regulatory environment for cryptocurrencies in the U.S., accelerating the nationwide expansion of projects like "World". In line with these developments, the company announced that it will accelerate the production of the devices by establishing a new factory in the Richardson area of the state of Texas. Following the cities in the first phase, Seattle, Orlando, San Diego and Las Vegas will also start using orb devices.
Alex Blania, co-founder of Tools for Humanity, stated in a statement that the devices will be integrated into daily life, saying, "You will be able to verify your identity within 10 minutes even at gas stations and supermarkets."
