DoubleZero CEO: The public internet is the bottleneck of Blockchain.
Source: Cointelegraph Original: "DoubleZero CEO: The Public Internet is the Bottleneck for Blockchain"
According to Austin Federa, co-founder and CEO of DoubleZero, public internet infrastructure is the key limiting factor for high throughput blockchain networks in terms of speed and performance. DoubleZero is dedicated to developing a high-speed fiber optic communication track project for blockchain.
During an interview with Cointelegraph at the 2025 Consensus conference, Federa stated: "The downside of the public internet is that it was never designed for high-performance systems. It was always built for a relationship between large servers and small servers." The executive explained:
He added that the limitations of public internet infrastructure are now the decisive factor for blockchain performance, rather than computing power or software development.
Networks like DoubleZero will make blockchain faster, reduce spreads in decentralized finance (DeFi) transactions, lower transaction costs, and open up new use cases for blockchain networks that were previously unattainable due to limitations in communication infrastructure.
DoubleZero was co-founded by Austin Federa in 2024. Austin left the Solana Foundation in December 2024 to establish the DoubleZero protocol. The project's goal is to reduce the time required for data transmission in the network (i.e., latency) and to increase bandwidth—the maximum data throughput that the network can handle at one time.
In April 2025, DoubleZero conducted a validator token sale, selling token purchase agreements to node operators interested in becoming network validators.
This token sale is only open to qualified investors and validators who are active on high-throughput blockchain networks such as Solana, Celestia, Sui, Aptos, and Avalanche.
The DoubleZero team plans to launch its public mainnet in the second half of 2025, after successfully raising $28 million.
Federa told Cointelegraph that the increasing high throughput of blockchain networks and the overall development of the industry urgently require the construction of dedicated high-performance communication infrastructure to meet the increasingly complex project demands.
