A man claiming to be a victim of a cryptocurrency romance scam, Michael Zidell, has sued East West Bank and Cathay Bank in federal court in California. He accuses the banks of having "turned a blind eye" to their obligations, resulting in his sending a total of nearly $7 million to the scammer's account at East West Bank and over $9.7 million to Cathay Bank.

Zidell had previously sued Citibank for failing to detect suspicious signs in 12 transactions totaling approximately 4 million dollars. In the new lawsuit, he argues that the banks facilitated the fraud by opening accounts and allowing suspicious transactions.

He also accused these banks of "facilitating the abuse of the elderly." Zidell is seeking damages and legal costs.
