Post-00s Web3 Entrepreneurs: Finding Opportunities and Balance Amidst the Frenzy
Post-00s Web3 Entrepreneurs: Exploring the Future Between Frenzy and Rationality
While those born in the 80s and 90s are still worried about missing out on Web3 opportunities, some born in the 2000s have already deeply engaged in it. To them, the "revolution" is just a part of their daily lives. However, in this emerging field, aside from the enthusiasm, some young pioneers are beginning to be more calm and reflective.
Entry into Puberty
Meepo is a "veteran" with ten years of Web3 experience. He was introduced to Bitcoin mining in the sixth grade, and although he didn't make much money at that time, he became interested in blockchain from then on.
Similarly, Zohar, born in 2003, started to get in touch with Bitcoin when he was a freshman in high school. He was interested in finance and economics and used about 3000 yuan to buy Bitcoin for fun, but later basically lost all of it.
Emma has been hearing about Bitcoin since she was 11. Now at 16, she is developing a blockchain-based digital publishing platform, hoping to address the issues of writers' income and marketing of their works.
For these young people, entering Web3 is not a deliberate choice, but a natural one. As a programmer from a cryptocurrency exchange said: "Isn't what young people like the future?"
"There is no authority here"
Emma believes that true content freedom can only be achieved on Web3. She observes that in the Web2 world, social media giants can control and censor any content. In Web3, there is no central authority, and everyone is a co-owner of the blockchain.
Dinghui fell in love at first sight with the decentralized autonomous organization ( DAO ). He once formed an online community that brought together hundreds of teenagers who were learning at home, taking leave from school, or dropping out, adhering to the principles of equality and self-governance.
Zohar likes to call himself a "bad student", unwilling to learn according to standard rhythms and requirements. He became the top scorer in the college entrance examination in the city through self-study, and then dropped out from the Chinese University of Hong Kong to pursue a Web3 startup.
These young people are eager to subvert authority and even become the new "authority". They believe that in the wave of Web3, everyone's influence can be amplified.
"Cut" and "Being Cut"
However, the Web3 startup ecosystem also has some issues. Meepo admitted that to some extent he achieved financial freedom by "cutting leeks." He believes that making money in the crypto space relies on the lack of transparency in information.
Dinghui once served as the operations director for a religious cultural NFT project but later withdrew. He discovered that some projects might just be looking to make a quick profit without truly creating value.
Zohar pointed out that NFTs are currently essentially a field that relies on noise contribution. Whether a project can make money largely depends on the team's "market value management ability" or "storytelling ability."
Next Stop
Despite being passionate about Web3, these young people are also starting to think about issues in the industry and their own futures. Meepo expressed some disappointment with the industry, believing that Web3 should be more inclined towards technology rather than financial attributes or speculation. He has temporarily joined a large internet company in hopes of gaining more technical experience.
Dinghui reviewed the current issues of DAOs in his article, believing that many so-called DAOs are actually not much different from ordinary communities. However, he is still exploring better implementations of DAOs.
The Zohar plan to return to campus in the future for more in-depth study and research. He hopes to accumulate more knowledge and experience about the market before that.
For these young people, Web3 is not the destination, but a new attempt in the journey of life. They seek a balance between enthusiasm and rationality, exploring their own future. No matter where they ultimately head, this experience will become a valuable asset in their lives.
