Avatars are canvases for digital assets but NFTs are optional
Author: Ready Player Me; Translation: MetaCat
Ready Player Me for everyone
Ready Player Me (RPM) is open to everyone. The goal of RPM is to build an avatar platform that everyone can use in the Metaverse. Creating an RPM avatar is always free. RPM will never become a high-priced, exclusive community accessible only to a select few.
For RPM users, the use of NFT will be an option, and will not force any RPM partners or end users to use NFT. For those who choose not to use NFTs, RPM also offers other types of virtual goods and ways to create stunning and unique avatars.
**Ready Player Me Why do you do this? **
We believe NFTs can help the Ready Player Me community.
1. We help developers monetize.
A significant portion of the revenue generated by the NFT will be allocated to apps and games that use the Ready Player Me avatar, depending on the asset’s usage scenario. Companies using RPM will get paid for allowing NFTs into their world. This helps our partners become profitable and supports a more open and connected Metaverse.
Supporting NFTs is a developer choice, some games and apps will support them while others will not. We will also provide tools for developers to sell "traditional" in-game assets and skins in their products.
2 We help NFT creators to make their virtual assets available in the Metaverse.
One of the biggest challenges for anyone creating digital assets associated with an avatar is making your assets usable in the virtual world. RPM gives creators access to hundreds of virtual worlds through our interoperable avatars. More creators making costumes for RPM avatars means more variety and high-quality digital assets for everyone.
3 This could be a good way for our company to make money.
This ensures that we can keep Ready Player Me free for developers forever. We believe avatars are a critical part of the Metaverse, and every developer should have access to a great avatar system for free.
**What will we do? **
Ready Player Me Self-Curated Drops: Our team will produce/curate Drops in-house, sometimes in collaboration with artists or brands. The goal of these Drops is to build high-quality assets and try out new concepts, RPM Punks being an example.
Ready Player Me PartnersDrops****: We will work with creators to make their assets truly work in the Metaverse. The value of non-wearable avatar assets in the Metaverse is limited. We will take a revenue share from the avatar's economy and share 50% of the profits with games and applications that use RPM in their products. We can deliver NFT assets to non-blockchain games without any extra work from developers. This allows us to introduce new developers to the benefits of Web3. An example of Partner Drops is Head5 of deadmau5.
Ready Player Me Airdrop: Free airdrop to our early community. This helps us reward our early backers.
Avatars are canvases for digital assets
Avatars are canvases for digital assets. Assets themselves can be accessories, clothing, skins, or full avatars. We'd love to see what new ideas people come up with!
Ready Player Me is not a digital fashion brand. We're building the infrastructure to provide a great avatar system for developers, portable avatars for end users, and a way for digital fashion brands to make their assets available in the Metaverse. We will also develop some products ourselves, but our main goal is to support other companies and projects that build on our platform.
We do not plan to build our own NFT marketplace. We are willing to integrate any existing marketplace with RPM.
**Why do we do this? **
We started Ready Player Me with some core assumptions about where the world is headed:
*In the future, people will spend more and more time in virtual worlds represented by avatars. This means that visual representations of our avatars are critical and will become an even more important part of our lives over time.
We originally envisioned a creator-driven avatar economy that looked similar to traditional skin and virtual goods marketplaces in games like Roblox. When NFT explodes in 2021, we are curious. We actively participate in the market to understand how this can help us achieve our mission.
The promise of NFTs is ownership and interoperability. This fits very well with where we think virtual worlds should go. It makes sense for the people in the Metaverse to own part of the world they inhabit. Whether it's through NFTs or otherwise, we believe in that.
NFT is still a very new thing, and there are many problems in the current implementation, such as speculation, high gas fees, environmental impact, rug pull, etc. We believe that as the market and technology mature, most of the problems will be solved.
We also believe that we can work our way around most of the drawbacks. This includes offsetting the CO2 consumed by our airdropped NFTs, and using a greener blockchain.
in conclusion
Ready Player Me is for everyone, we will not force any partners and end users to use NFT. NFTs are optional for those interested in trying Ready Player Me.
We believe digital ownership of assets is an important part of building a more open and connected Metaverse. There are many ways to help us build a better community and a better product for everyone involved.
We are so excited to be on this path of learning and building with all of you. It's been a crazy ride and it's about to get crazier.
