Opinion: GameFi's challenge goes beyond the economic model

According to the current understanding of GameFi, how to break the game on the chain cannot be solved by economic models alone.

People often talk about moving relatively profitable games like "Fantasy Westward Journey" directly to the chain. In fact, there are many misunderstandings here:

  1. Traditional games do not continue to attract money because their economic models are good enough, but because the economy produced by the game itself is difficult to convert into money, or the conversion is very asymmetric. If the traditional game can play gold and withdraw gold 1:1, then similar problems will also arise.

  2. The user base of on-chain games and traditional games differs by more than one order of magnitude.

  3. Traditional games can be pervasive in terms of publicity, experience, exposure, etc. You can occupy your fragmented time whenever you want to play, but games on the chain cannot do this due to various reasons such as thresholds and policies.

  4. Gameplay > Economic model. Putting aside the gameplay and talking about the economic model, the only purpose is to cut you off.

Back to the current market stage, the core point of how to measure a GameFi is that under the premise of continuous operation, if the token does not collapse and the gameplay does not decline, it is already a good start. The cake painting is too big, and it is difficult for such a grand masterpiece to appear in this era.
