CoinEX security incident analysis
According to an investigation by the CertiK security team, the amount of losses suffered by the CoinEX crypto exchange is estimated at $53.096 million.
Event Summary:
On September 13, 2023, the CertiK security team monitored and found that the total loss of the CoinEX exchange was approximately US$53.096 million. The funds are now located in 3 EOA addresses on Ethereum, and 1 EOA address on Polygon, Tron, BSC, Bitcoin Chain, Ripple, Solana, XDAG, Bitcoin Cash and Kadena. The leak of private keys is currently considered to be the main reason for this incident. There are also reports that hundreds of wallets on multiple chains may be implicated.
An investigation into the CoinEX social media platform revealed that its Telegram administrator had cleared all large group chat messages since December 2022. In addition, its Discord channel has also deleted all information related to this incident, but old messages are still there. Both Telegram and Discord have enabled user bans.
