Meta also introduced new AI image editing tools, where users will be able to transform images and even co-create AI-generated images with friends. Restyle and background generation (Backdrop) - two new features coming soon to Instagram - use Emu's technology.

Restyle allows you to reimagine your images by applying a visual style that you describe. Consider entering a descriptor like "watercolor" or a more detailed prompt like "collage of magazines and newspapers, torn edges" to describe the new look and feel of the image you want to create.

Background changes the scene or background of the image. Prompts like "Place me in front of the magnificent Northern Lights" or "Surrounded by puppies" will allow the tool to create an image of the main subject in the foreground and the background you describe.

Meta also launched a blockbuster product at the event - Meta AI. It's an AI assistant similar to ChatGPT that you can interact with, available on WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and coming soon to Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and Quest 3. Meta AI is powered by a custom model that leverages Llama 2 and Meta's latest Large Language Model (LLM) research. In text-based chat, Meta AI provides access to real-time Internet information through Bing's search partnership and provides image generation tools.

Imagine you and your friends are in a group chat discussing that place in Santa Cruz to go hiking. Meta AI displays options directly in chat, so you can decide as a team which locations you want to explore. What if after your hike you want a creative way to commemorate the day? Meta AI can help. Type "@MetaAI /imagine" followed by a descriptive text prompt such as "Create a button badge with a hiker and a redwood tree" and it will create a digital badge in a chat with friends.

Xiao Zha demonstrated live that Meta AI can generate images in just 5 seconds, and then you can call them in any Meta chat application (WhatsApp Messenger, Instagram, etc.).

AI studio

Meta also launched AI studio on the day of the event, a platform that supports the creation of AI, which can be used by people outside of Meta (coders and non-coders, etc.) to build AI. In the coming weeks, developers will be able to use the API to build third-party AI for Meta's messaging services, starting with Messenger and then expanding to WhatsApp.
