Vitalik Buterin, one of the founders of Ethereum, clarified the criticism that Ethereum Foundation (EF) is selling ETH to cover its expenses.

In his post on the X platform, he expressed that the concerns in the past were largely focused on regulatory risks and the obligation for Ethereum Foundation to stake, which would create a requirement to be involved in future controversial hard forks.

Buterin stated that regulatory risks are no longer as serious, but pointed out that there are still issues with staking. Buterin expressed that the staking process could put the foundation in a difficult situation regarding any potential hard fork, and said, 'We are researching some methods to minimize this problem recently'.

ETH Sales and Controversial Hard Forks

From time to time, the Ethereum Foundation conducts ETH sales to fund development activities and provide support for projects. However, this has faced criticism within the community that it could lose the foundation's independence and undermine the principle of decentralization.

Buterin pointed out that the foundation's own staking would make it difficult to remain neutral when a controversial hard fork occurs in the future. He emphasized the need to carefully consider the staking process to maintain Ethereum's neutral structure.
