Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, said that he is researching the ETH staking options of the Ethereum Foundation, which has attracted attention with its sales.

Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, stated in a post from his X account that Ethereum Foundation is exploring the idea of staking its approximately 1 billion dollars worth of ETH assets.

Eric Conner, an angel investor in X, suggested that the foundation could stake its shares and use staking rewards to pay employees and provide grants.

Responding to this proposal, Buterin explained two reasons why the foundation has not done this in the past and pointed out some risks of the foundation staking ETH, saying:

"Historically, concerns were: the obligation to take a stance against regulatory risks and controversial hard forks.

As regulatory concerns decrease, the second issue persists but there are definitely ways to minimize it.

We are also currently researching staking.

According to on-chain data, the Ethereum Foundation made another 100 ETH sale today. With this latest sale, the Ethereum Foundation has now sold a total of 4,666 ETH (worth 13.3 million dollars) since January 2, 2024.
