How Move-based Public Chains Are Changing the Current Landscape of Public Chains

In May, after hearing about the Aptos testnet, I began to pay attention to and study the two emerging public chains, Aptos and Sui. They originated from the Facebook Libra project team and inherited the important legacy of the Move language. This reminds me of the Fairchild Semiconductor company, which changed the course of technology in the last century, and I hope Aptos and Sui can replicate the Silicon Valley miracle of that time.

The Move language is a computer language born for finance, which deals with the core token assets of blockchain in a tailored manner, making it a truly asset-oriented programming language. The Move language defines digital assets as special and important data, creating Resources separately to define tokens. It stipulates that tokens must be stored under an account, cannot be copied or double-spent during transactions, and must flow to another address or be destroyed, thereby enhancing the security of digital assets.

Aptos and Sui, as high-performance public chains, share key characteristics such as parallel processing and scalability. Parallel processing can distinguish between transactions that only require transfer and those that require both transfer and collateral, allowing for parallel and serial processing respectively, thereby increasing the overall network's processing speed. In terms of scalability, taking Sui as an example, its architectural design allows for an increase in transaction processing speed by adding machine resources. These features provide strong network capacity support for the migration of Web2 applications to Web3.

The Move public blockchain is likely to revolutionize the existing public blockchain landscape. It possesses strong scalability and security, serving as a competitive chain after Ethereum's upgrade, accommodating grand narratives such as Web3, billions of users, and the metaverse. This differs from the previous narratives of new public blockchains centered around "Ethereum competitive chains"; it represents a completely new narrative for public blockchains.

Aptos and Sui, while suitable for various application scenarios on Ethereum, each have their own characteristics. Sui has modified the Move language to make it more object-oriented, making it more suitable for game development. Aptos, on the other hand, is more favorable towards the NFT track, as the official SDK provides a Token client specifically for NFT applications.

Regarding the concerns that Move-based public chains will become the next EOS, I believe that Aptos and Sui are not simply reinventing the wheel, but are dedicated to improving the security and scalability of blockchain, creating an infrastructure network aimed at billions of people. They may serve markets that are not covered by existing public chains.

Ordinary users can participate in the development of the Move ecosystem in various ways. Developers can learn the Move language and participate in project development and hackathons. Investors can engage in and experience sectors such as Defi, Gamefi, and NFTs. Currently, the Aptos ecosystem has the most wallets, infrastructure, and Defi applications, with some projects having a large user base and years of operational experience. There are also many native applications incubated by Aptos and Sui in the fields of Gamefi, Socialfi, and NFTs.
